In episode 71 of the Pacey Performance Podcast I am speaking to lecturer in sports science at James Cook University in Queensland, Carl Woods. Carl has published in the areas of talent identification, skill acquisition and motor learning. Carl was recommended to me by Ian McKeown and when Mackers speaks, I listen. Carl and I discuss athletic movement assessments and what he has seen between different sports in terms of movement competency as well as how he has assessed perceptual skills in youth athletes. One thing that I also wanted to discuss with Carl was how he uses data to aid coaches in making decisions on the selection of players.
In this episode you will learn -
- Who is Carl Woods (background, experience and current role)
- The talent ID process in the AFL
- Athletic movement assessments
- Ways to assess perceptual skills
- Commonalities in youth sport
- Performance analytics
